About Your Speaker

Shawna Mackey Geiger is the Training Director for the Colorado Office of Alternate Defense Counsel, which provides representation to indigent defendants. Prior to her role as a trainer, Ms. Geiger represented clients as a public defender as well as in private practice where she focused on indigent criminal defense. Ms. Geiger teaches trial advocacy, persuasion and client communication skills across the country and has served on the faculty of a number of trial advocacy programs including the National College of Criminal Defense, Western Trial Advocacy Institute and the Southern Public Defender Training Center. As training director, she organizes a variety of trainings in Colorado, including Alternate Defense Counsel’s Annual Trial Advocacy program. She is Past- President of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. Ms Geiger is active in the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, serving on the Executive Committee of the National Alliance of Indigent Defense Educators, as well as being a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.
