Even though worker’s compensation is governed by fifty (50) different state systems, federal law and administrative agency decisions can and do impact on state worker’s compensation practices. Medicare imposes a serious obstacle to achieving settlements. Federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Labor and Social Security Administration, can be expected to continue to examine cost shifting to the federal government caused by state worker’s compensation changes.
