Handling the Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Claim

Details

The TSGLI is a program intended to provide automatic traumatic injury coverage to all Service members who are injured from October 7, 2001 to present. The program is governed under the Department of Veterans Affairs, but administered by the Department of Defense. Servicemembers pay a premium for this coverage out of their military paycheck. Benefits are paid by a private insurer, Prudential Life Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide qualifying Servicemembers and Veterans short-term lump sum tax free financial assistance in their recovery from traumatic injuries. TSGLI is not only for combat injuries, but provides insurance coverage for injuries incurred on or off duty. Based on the severity of the injury, benefits range from $25,000.00 up to $100,000.00 in $25,000.00 increments.
